Chubby$tuntz is the next big thing out of San Jose! He first started writing music back in 2015 but just started taking things seriously a couple years ago. We got the chance to catch up with Chubby$tuntz and asked him “How did you first get into music?” He had this to say. “I started writing music back in 2015 after listening to some of my favorite artists such as Joey Badass, Nas, Mobb Deep, & MF DOOM. When I first started writing, it was a struggle because I did not know how many syllables fit into a bar nor did I understand what the rhyme scheme was. Not knowing those things is what made me want to learn more and more so I started to study lyrics from my favorite artist”. Most artists throughout the pandemic have lost motivation or have stopped making music in general, For Chubby$tuntz it is the complete opposite! He said this to us when we asked “How has music been throughout the pandemic?”. “The pandemic really made me much more creative and hungry in terms of making music. Even though I work a day job and have not been laid off like a lot of people have since the start of the pandemic, I still make time for music every single day”. Not even a worldwide pandemic can stop this artist from fulfilling his goals and chasing his dreams. Chubby$tuntz enjoys many different things about being an artist but his favorite thing is writing! “The number one thing I enjoy about being an artist is creating dope music that people enjoy. The song writing process is something that fascinated me the most”. Chubby$tuntz creative process is the same yet different then other artists, His diverse style allows him to make music on a number of beats and he changes his style depending on the beat. “It really depends on the type of beat that I’m writing to. If the beat is really melodic and harmonizing then I try to form a melodic hook/verse but if the beat is very 90’s style I just write and formulate slick bars. Every time I write a song I play the beat back each time that I come up with a line. For example, if I come up with a line, I would play the beat back and rehearse all the lines I came up with and repeat the process until the song is finished. That way, I would have the entire song memorized by the time I’m finished with the song”. We, like everybody else, do not know what the future holds, But having goals and plans for the future can definitely help! So we decided to ask Chubby$tuntz “Where do you see yourself in five years?” He had this to say. “In 5 years, I see myself collaborating with different artists in the industry that have the same passion in music that I do. I also see myself with an established fan base that supports me to the fullest”. We see this goal to be very possible and realistic for Chubby$tuntz as his work ethic is vastly different to other underground artists! To this date Chubby$tuntz is just coming up with his music as he only has 27 monthly listeners but we see this number growing. His most recent song “Gon’ be alright (feat. Sammy Zito)” is available on all platforms. To end off the write up Chubby$tuntz had one more thing to say, Confirming an EP! “I am releasing a 5 track EP called “My Roots” which is all 90’s east coast boom bap style hip hop. This EP is my first solo project that, as the title indicates, was the first style of hip hop that I fell in love with and influenced me the most in terms of writing and rapping”.
