Jayreal Suave is creating a movement out of New York. Born in Bronx, New York and later raised in Mount Vernon New York Suave first started releasing music in 2016 when he was around 17 years old. Suave is now 22 years old and is the Founder/CEO of his own company called “Suave entertainment”. We got the chance to catch up with Suave earlier this week and decided to ask him “how did you first get into music?” He had this to say. “I actually started out battle rapping in my school cafeteria then over the years I slowly transitioned to structured songwriting. I am still at the battle scene today, by the way.” We found this very interesting as even though battle rap has not been as popular recently it is still a great way to grow as an artist. You can help grow your craft by competing and stepping up to the plate but you also grow your following from performing in front of groups of people. Every artist enjoys different and similar things about what they do. One of Suave’s favorite things about being an artist is encompassing a thought, emotion or feeling and turning it into art. “What I enjoy most about being an artist is how vividly I’m able to translate a feeling, thought, or statement through the rhyming of my words. I genuinely enjoy the science of what I do.” We found this very inspiring as some artists favorite things are the money and girls where Suave is 100 percent focused on the music. The Pandemic has been challenging and has affected pretty much everyone around the world (Artists included in that) so we decided to ask Suave what the musical process has been throughout the Pandemic. “My music during the pandemic I’d say has grown a lot from where I was before. Quarantine really allowed me to properly focus on my goal as an artist and direction of my sound. During the pandemic I released my visual IIWII which is my most viewed to date. From there everything else I’ve dropped has fallen into place.” Artists have pretty much only gone two ways throughout the Pandemic from my personal persivate. There have been some that have risen like Suave working harder than ever on their sound and craft, But the majority have been stagnant or have stopped making music altogether. Most artists get their sound by being inspired by another artist or by a couple different artists. We asked Suave who his inspirations were and he shot off a list featuring old school artists from the 90s all the way to artists just now taking off. “ I’ve gone through a lot of different phases with artists. Early on in my childhood it was definitely Lil Bow Wow and Eminem because they were like no other at the time. Into my teens it was definitely Nas, Biggie, Ye, Andre 3000, Busta Rhymes, Black Eyed Peas. Modern day influences for me going into college are J Cole, Wale, Big Sean, Kendrick, Freddie Gibbs, Drake, Tory Lanez.” We found this very interesting as every artist on the list he gave us has their own unique sound and influence. We, like everybody else, do not know what the future holds, But we know that it is important to have a plan in place so that you can take action. This is the reason why we asked Suave “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” He had this to say. “In 5 years I see myself charting, preferably independent. I’m here for consistency and longevity so in 5 years time I see myself at least on my 4th studio album continuously making an impact.” We found this to be a great plan to have in place for the future as Suave counties to work and grow on his music. To this date Suave has around 17,000 streams across all platforms with his most recent project called “Suavè Language” available on all platforms. To end off the write up Suave had one last thing to say to his supporters or anybody else reading this, talking about the path of his career, “I’m really trying to go down as one of the, if not the smoothest/effortless rappers ever sonically.”
